Education Alumna Jackie Geer Receives Teaching Award

Jackie Geer, a 2001 graduate of the ProMAT program who attended classes at the Montgomery County Campus, recently was named Maryland Educator of the Year by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. This award is given each year to a teacher that has helped further education of the Bay.

In the nomination letter, Jackie's colleagues noted that she "certainly complies with county education standards, but she goes above and beyond what is required. Although she is a science educator, she teaches her students more than just science. . Jackie is dedicated not only to educating students about the environment, but also to creating responsible stewards of the earth and student environmental leaders."

In addition to the CBF award, Jackie was nominated for the 2007 Chesapeake Bay Trust Teacher of the Year Award. This award highlights the influence that teachers can have by promoting environmental investigation using creative, hands-on approaches with their students.

Jackie currently teaches at the Cabin John Middle School in Montgomery County. Congratulations to Jackie on her award and her nomination!
